Dear Library Community:

With this message the Office of Commonwealth Libraries is announcing the resources that will be provided under the POWER Library Network for 2010. This is the package of resources as of today, January 28, 2010.

POWER Library Network 2010:

General Periodical Resources (H.W. Wilson)

Newspaper Resources (Gale)

Business Resources (ProQuest ABI Inform)

Contemporary Authors

AP Photo Archive

The detail on the content of the new resources will be announced next week. Any additions to this package will be announced as decisions are finalized.

Contemporary Authors and AP Photo Archive will continue to be available uninterrupted. Work is underway to make the technological connections to begin access to the announced content as quickly as possible.

The Office of Commonwealth Libraries regrets the inconvenience and anxiety this change and interruption in offerings will undoubtedly cause.

Refreshments will be for sale at the movie. All proceeds from the raffle and refreshments go to the LC library! Thanks for helping improve our library collection!

New ONLINE catalog!

Please welcome the LC Library to the 21st century! Today we started using our new online catalog, called Destiny! Click here to check it out.

Basically what this means is:

you can now search for library books from anywhere that you have internet access!
we can add websites and ebooks to our catalog
you can create your own login and then you can:

see what items you have checked out and when they are due
see any fines you owe
create reading lists
put books on hold
check out e-books [coming soon]

Also, you can try Destiny Quest. It's the cool way to use the library. No, really. Go try it out!

This has nothing to do with school or the library....well, it could relate to art class, if you are amazingly talented and great at art, which I am not. Which is probably why I love this video so much, because I know I could never make anything this good, and I totally appreciate the effort put into this. Plus, it's just really cool.

Check out ANIMOTO, a site where you can make a video using your own photos. You can either upload the photos from your computer, or you can use photos from flickr, picasa, smugmug, and other image hosting sites. After you choose your photos, you can add music.

I promise to make a video soon and upload it so you can see what I'm talking about! :)

2 new Reading Olympics books available!

As of right this minute, I just finished processing the following 2 books, which are on the 08-09 Reading Olympics list:

1. Tithe: a modern faerie tale by Holly Black
